Dr. Madhuri Nishtala wins WMAA Outstanding Resident Teaching Award

Madhuri Nishtala, MD

Dr. Madhuri Nishtala, general surgery resident, received the Outstanding Resident Teaching Award from the Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association (WMAA).

The Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association (WMAA) presents annual teaching awards to individuals who are highly regarded by students for outstanding teaching efforts in three categories:

  • Clinical teachers in each of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health’s teaching locations: Green Bay, La Crosse, Madison, Marshfield and Milwaukee
  • An outstanding resident
  • A distinguished instructor in Phase 1 of the School of Medicine and Public Health’s ForWard Curriculum

Students explained why they recognized Dr. Nishtala: “Dr. Nishtala made me feel comfortable from my first day on general surgery service. From making sure that I was prepared for cases to asking about my well-being, she truly cared about my experience and making it a safe learning environment. What inspired me most about Dr. Nishtala is she took the time to learn where each student was at and worked with them to reach their goals, whether that be learning basic procedural skills or helping guide them through the residency application cycle. Wherever she ends up as faculty, they will be lucky to have her!”

The Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association was founded in 1956. It is dedicated to serving the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and its network of over 8,000 medical students and alumni. Its mission is to create lasting relationships between the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health alumni and students by visibly supporting its alumni, students and residents and advancing the mission of the school.
