The current national sentinel lymph node (SLN) clinical trials for breast carcinoma address the prognostic and therapeutic utility of SLN dissection (SLND) in women with early-stage, clinically node-negative breast cancer. Following completion of these studies, overall survival, disease-free survival, morbidity, and quality of life of patients will be compared. Surgeon participation is crucial to the ongoing success of clinical trials in the field of breast cancer surgery. Copyright © 2016 The Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System
