On Aug. 25, 2025, the Department of Surgery hosted an investiture ceremony to celebrate Dr. Samuel Poore, Professor and Chair of the Division of Plastic Surgery and the Endowed Chair of Global Education in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Rebecca Minter, Chair of the Department of Surgery, began the ceremony with opening remarks and then presented Dr. Poore with his medallion. The ceremony concluded with a presentation from Dr. Poore titled “Celebrating the Global Impact of UW Plastic Surgery: 35 Years and Counting.”

The Endowed Chair of Global Education in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery supports a professor in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery who is dedicated to program development and initiatives related to global health and education. Having participated in global surgery trips to Vietnam, Nicaragua, Rwanda, Egypt, South Africa, and Ecuador, Dr. Poore has made significant impacts on the global surgery program at UW–Madison.

Notably, Dr. Poore has made considerable advances in the teaching of microsurgery around the world. During his global surgery trip in March 2024, he and his group taught the first-ever microsurgical training course in Hanoi, Vietnam. On this trip, they also took eight portable surgical microscopes (patented by WARF) that were 3D printed in the lab. These microscopes serve to provide magnification for those learning microsurgery in resource constrained countries.

The Department of Surgery would like to thank the generous donors and friends that made this professorship possible.
