Faculty
Residents train with faculty who have a depth of experience across fields and a diversity of training backgrounds. Trainees will have the opportunity to work with up to 15 different vascular surgery faculty over the course of their time with us and will gain the perspectives of the faculty not only from their training but from their years of experience in different areas of clinical focus.
Rotations
We provide incremental, progressive clinical training in core general surgery and vascular surgery during the program, with a focus on areas that will be critically important to the needs of a practicing vascular specialist. The trainees will be exposed to a variety of practice settings including a large academic medical center, two community hospitals, a VA hospital, and an outpatient vein center. Over the course of the five-year training period, vascular residents will spend a total of 18 months on core surgery rotations and 42 months on vascular surgery rotations.

Research
Residents will be supported through two years of dedicated research between their second and third years of clinical training and will be able to take advantage of the University of Wisconsin’s and Department of Surgery’s world-class research opportunities. The Department and University have a diverse portfolio of funded research opportunities for surgical research, including: basic science and translational, health services/outcomes, biomedical engineering, and surgical education.
Why Wisconsin
We aim to train the future leaders in vascular surgery. This residency program is designed to produce surgeons who can provide comprehensive care to the vascular patient and be expected to fully participate in the rapid expansion of the field of vascular surgery, both clinically and academically.
