Dr. David Harris Honored with Vilas Faculty Early-Career Investigator Award

Dr. David Harris, assistant professor in the Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery, was awarded a Vilas Faculty Early-Career Investigator Award. This award will provide Dr. Harris with flexible research funding for three years.

Dr. Harris is the Principal Investigator for the Wisconsin Surgical Laboratory in Metabolism (WiSLiM). The WiSLiM Team, led by Dr. Harris, seeks to define how metabolic interventions like bariatric surgery impact organ function and aging. They have multiple active areas of investigation that span a diverse set of human disease including obesity, diabetes, cancer, and Alzheimer’s Disease. They also develop translational and targeted therapeutics for the treatment of metabolic disease.

The Vilas Faculty Early-Career Investigator Award recognizes research and teaching excellence in faculty who are relatively early in their careers. The prestigious award is for UW–Madison faculty members in approximately the first ten years of their career.  This award for outstanding achievement is funded by the estate of professor, U.S. Senator, and UW Regent William F. Vilas (1840-1908).
