Dr. Patrick Carney, general surgery resident, won the flash talk session at the UW Carbone Cancer Center’s Annual Research Retreat.

The top six abstracts from the meeting were selected for a 10-minute oral presentation and the top prize was $1,000 towards research funding or travel.

Dr. Carney’s flash talk was titled “CDK7 Inhibition is a Novel Target in Fibrolamellar Carcinoma (FLC).” In this presentation, Dr. Carney discussed the work he has done in Dr. Sean Ronnekleiv-Kelly’s lab on identifying a new therapeutic target for a rare cancer. This talk represented a large portion of Dr. Carney’s work over the past two years as a research resident in Dr. Ronnekleiv-Kelly’s lab.
