The current issue features a groundbreaking paper by Smyth, Lechler, and Lombardi entitled “Continuous acquisition of MHC:peptide complexes by recipient cells contributes to the generation of anti-graft CD8 T cell immunity”(1). This paper is now the third of 3 appearing in close succession that are re-defining the allograft rejection paradigm to include a major role for the “semi-direct” pathway(2, 3).
