The Hartwell Foundation officially announced the recipients of the 2017 Hartwell Individual Biomedical Research Awards, which will provide support for three years. Twelve individuals representing ten institutions received recognition as Hartwell Investigators. This year, two awards went to UW Madison investigators, including our own Dr. Robert Redfield!
Dr. Redfield, Assistant Professor of Surgery, won support for Genetically Engineered Porcine Islets for the Treatment of Type 1 Diabetes and Dr. Vivek Balasubramaniam, Associate Professor of Pediatrics, won support for Application of Cellular-Derived Therapies for the Regeneration of Lung Structure and Function. Congratulations—we are thrilled that Dr. Redfield has brought this award to Surgery for the first time in our history!
