Dr. Sharon Weber, Professor and Chair of the Division of Surgical Oncology, was awarded the Medical Alumni Citation – Distinguished Alumni Award by the Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association (WMAA) at the WMAA Awards Banquet on May 2.
The Medical Alumni Citation – Distinguished Alumni Award honors UW–Madison medical school alumni who have achieved distinction in medicine. Achievement is recognized through excellence in the practice of medicine, in academic activities and in research accomplishment.
“We were very fortunate to recruit Dr. Weber in 2001 as an Assistant Professor in the Clinical Health Sciences track,” Dr. Minter, A.R. Curreri Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery, said. “Since that time, she has proven herself to be an exceptionally skilled leader, researcher, and clinician. Her increasing list of accomplishments prompted a track transfer and her receipt of tenure and the rank of full Professor in 2012. It is important to note that Dr. Weber was the first tenured female surgeon in the Division of General Surgery and only the second tenured female surgeon in our entire department.”
