Principal duties:

The Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health is recruiting a Chairman for the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. We are seeking a dynamic, experienced surgeon who has the leadership, vision, and strategic organizational skills to lead a robust and growing Cardiothoracic Division.

The successful candidate will lead a group of twelve academic surgeons providing clinical service at five hospitals (UWHC, AFCH, Meriter, Veterans Administration, Swedish American Hospital) and multiple Outreach Clinics; oversee an accredited cardiothoracic fellowship; direct activities of a Cardiothoracic lab and clinic within a hospital supported thoracic and cardiovascular service line. Growing new clinical programs, including cardiothoracic critical care, and building business relationships with physicians and hospitals is a major responsibility of this leadership role. The candidate must be academically-oriented and interested in research, teaching medical students, residents, fellows, and providing high quality patient care. The successful candidate will also participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the faculty rank. This position is expected to work with colleagues in the Department of Surgery and throughout the UW Health, UW School of Medicine and Public Health and UW-Madison to develop productive research relationships which result in national and international presentations and publications. Rank will depend on candidate’s interests and academic background.
