Surgery student researchers win Shapiro Awards

Medical student surgery summer research assistants Stephen Chen and Nadeem Bandealy were both awarded Shapiro Excellence in Student Research Awards at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health Annual Medical Student Research Forum on November 19th.

Stephen presented on “Optimizing Levothyroxine Dose Adjustment After Thyroidectomy with a Decision Tree” and Nadeem presented on “The Impact of Diagnosis on Patient Satisfaction in a Large Sample of General Surgery Outpatients.”

Stephen was mentored by Dave Schneider, MD, MS, and Nadeem was mentored by Emily Winslow, MD, and general surgery resident Victoria Rendell, MD. Congratulations to the winners and thank you to their research mentors for your excellent guidance.
