July 1, 2026.
Dr. Gibson is currently the Medical Director of the UW Health Wound Healing Services and the Vice Chair of Research for the Department of Surgery. She specializes in burn and complex wounds, as well as acute care surgery. Her research interests focus on epithelial regeneration in burn injury, evaluation of skin substitutes, human skin model development for wound healing and understanding the burn wound microenvironment. Dr. Gibson’s research into imaging technology to determine burn depth was recently mentioned in News in Health by the NIH.
In addition, Dr. Gibson is the Paul Davis Community Professor. This professorship, which was established by Paul Davis Restoration of South Central Wisconsin, supports a faculty member to focus on research, education, patient care, and any other initiatives that advance the mission of the UW Health Burn and Wound Center in the Department of Surgery.
Dr. Gibson is assuming the role of Medical Director of the UW Health Burn Center from Dr. Lee Faucher, professor in the Division of Acute Care and Regional General Surgery. The department would like to recognize the tremendous leadership of Dr. Faucher, who held the position since 2011 and was instrumental in the growth of the UW Burn and Wound Center, specifically the expanded facility which opened in 2020.
“Dr. Faucher’s leadership has been instrumental in the success of the UW Health Burn Center,” Dr. Gibson said. “Through years of growth and change, he has provided consistent direction and oversight, maintaining burn verification and fostering a culture of excellence that has benefited both patients and providers. I am grateful for his mentorship and for the foundation he leaves for the next chapter of the program.”
