Several Department members recently traveled to Ethiopia for a variety of research and teaching activities. Highlights include:
- Angela Ingraham, MD, MS, and Kristin Long, MD, MPH, traveled to Hawassa to participate in UW’s rotation at a local university as part of a global surgery capacity-building project with the American College of Surgeons.
- Girma Tefera, MD, and Molly Vaux, MPH, met with colleagues in Hawassa to complete a needs assessment for the development of a strong simulation program and the introduction of a trauma care curriculum.
- Michael Bentz, MD, Catharine Garland, MD, Delora Mount, MD, and Susan Thibeault, PhD, CCC-SLP, traveled to Addis Ababa to present at a two-day CME conference facilitated by the Ethio-American Doctors Group and led by Dr. Tefera. The plastics faculty members also explored the possibility of a future global rotation site for plastics residents in Addis Ababa.
- Dr. Tefera received a commendation from the US Ambassador to Ethiopia, recognizing Dr. Tefera’s years of effort in Ethiopia. Congratulations, Dr. Tefera!
