Dr. Luke Funk, Professor in the Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery, was selected as a recipient of the 2024-2025 James IV Traveling Fellowship award.
This fellowship is designed to promote communication and collaboration in the surgical community. James IV Travelers function as both ambassadors representing their home countries and conduits for the dissemination of knowledge. The fellowship will allow Dr. Funk to travel for a period of up to four weeks within a two-year period with a flat stipend of $15,000.
“I am truly surprised and deeply honored to receive the James IV Traveling Fellowship, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent the U.S. surgical community as a fellow,” Dr. Funk said. “This experience will allow me to expand my clinical and research perspectives and to foster valuable collaborations that will ultimately enhance the quality of surgical care we provide. My heartfelt thanks to the Department of Surgery at UW-Madison and the sponsors who supported me.”
The James IV Association of Surgeons supports visiting fellowship opportunities for young surgeons to and from member countries. The Association also provides training, support and mentorships to future surgical leaders, and promotes the exchange of surgical knowledge and the highest standard of clinical care.
