The Doris Duke Clinical Research Continuum (funded through the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation) offers minority high school students the opportunity to participate in a six-week clinical research experience. This year 10 students from around Wisconsin were partnered into research teams to work research a qualitative research question. Additionally, they were assigned a clinical mentor to learn more about surgical diseases, treatment, and procedures. The students also had the opportunity to learn more about careers in health care through time in the Simulation Center, clinical shadowing, and weekly lectures. The students have been able to explore different aspects of the healthcare system including the chance to talk to professionals across UW Health about careers in medicine, leadership, and scholarship.
